Preparing for the migration to terrestrial digital broadcasting
Conventional analog TV broadcasting will end in July of this year. Until this date, viewers using analog TVs should make preparations to migrate to terrestrial digital broadcasting. People who are using analog-type TVs should make preparations in advance to be able to receive and watch digital programs. In addition, the national government has a subsidy system to help eligible people to get ready to receive digital broadcasting signals. Eligibility for the subsidy system: 1) households that receive total exemption of NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) reception fee and fall in one of the following categories: a) households receiving welfare assistance or any other assistance supported by the national government; b) households who have persons with special needs and all family members are exempted from the residential tax; c) households who are living at social welfare facilities and have their own TV set. 2) households whose members are all exempted from residential taxes.
